Sausage Quip Angers Some Viewers

Paul Daniels' comment during Friday's show - "Don't give up your daytime job tasting sausages" - has reportedly caused a bit of a stir according to the Daily Mail, with some viewers branding Daniels 'homophobic'.

Craig has been named a spokesman for British Sausage Week next month, and both Craig and Paul have played it down.

Craig said on his Twitter page yesterday: "Hi all, what a great night it was last night! Paul Daniels naturally was referring to my being crowned King of the Sizzle for sausageweek!"

On his Twitter page, Paul said: "Media this morn trying to make me homophobic. Crazy. Why do journos and editors want to live in a nasty world of their own creation?"

He added: "If journos thought the mild sausage gag was about being gay they obviously don't keep up with the news. It's Sausage Week!"

Yes, of course the comment was laced with double entendre, but Craig himself has been known to use quite a lot of double entendre himself. And the Daily Mail references a couple of isolated Twitter comments as indication of a backlash.

Personally, I think it's a storm in a teacup. But after last year's show was plagued with controversy, everyone needs to be on their best behaviour for a while.
