Arlene's Scores

Arlene Phillips has added a Sun column to her list of commitments, and this week has scored each of the couples.

She gave the highest marks to Ali & Brian with 7. And the lowest went to Joe & Kristina and Martina & Matthew, both with just 2.

She also feels that the programme lacks something by being all in one show, instead of having seperate results: "An hour and a half is too long and getting the results so quickly diminishes the excitement. Viewers like to be able to get up, make a cup of tea, then come back and settle in for the results. It heightens the level of excitement. Thinking, 'Somebody is going to go home tonight' used to give me butterflies. There was much more drama when there were two shows."

I'm inclined to agree with her on that (alright, maybe not the bit about tea, although I do like to have time to refill my wine glass and phone my Mum to discuss what I've just watched). I always liked the drama of 'earlier tonight...' and the anticipation. And surely the BBC are losing telephone revenue by only having the phone lines open for 15 minutes.

Lou, you must know by now that the BBC don't make any money from the phone votes at all. The votes cost 15p each and that money goes solely to the company who organises the phone votes. Up until two years ago the votes cost around 30p and 15p of each vote went to Children in Need, but after the various phone scandals the BBC weren't allowed to do that so all the money now goes to the phone company. The BBC can't be seen to be profiting from it! Force Ten
